One of the things that seems hardest for new players is deciding what gear to buy. First - decide approximately how much your willing to spend and whether you plan to play mostly woods ( and possibly move to speedball later ) or jump right in ring. Often new players see woodsball guns that look like "snipers" and are packed full of goodies.

Today atleast, paintball guns simply are not accurate enough to use a scope. When a bullet is thrown through a rifled barrel - it gets spin which helps it maintain such a straight path. Most paintball barrels are not rifled -and the few that are have been proven ineffective because of the shape of a paintball..

So, now that your past the look alikes.. what is really important on a gun? Depends. Do you want to be upfront in the action or chillin' in the back? For front players a gun with a responsive double trigger and fast hopper is a must. Back players need efficiency - accuracy - and a pod pack can't hurt.

Now .. what brand names are reputable? Every person you will talk to has different opinions on certain names, but the most commonly accepted manufactures are:

Smart Parts - Both speedball and woods guns
WGP (Autococker) - Both speedsball and woods guns
Bushmaster ( Expensive ) - Speedball only
Dye ( Expensive ) - Speedball only
JT - Universal

Arrow Now, read some of the reviews in the equipment section of the forums. Talk to some of your friends that play, ask field/store owners, and find out what gun and equipment works for you.
